Texas Car Insurance Requirements
The state of Texas follows a Tort system meaning someone must be found to be at fault for causing the accident, and that person and their insurance company is responsible for all the damages
- The minimum state requirements for liability coverage are:
- $25,000 bodily injury coverage for one person in a single accident
- $50,000 bodily injury coverage total per accident
- $25,000 property damage coverage per accident
Proof of Insurance and Financial Responsibility
To make insurance tracking easier, Texas lawmakers teamed up with the Texas Department of Transportation to verify insurance electronically. If you let your insurance lapse, you risk suspension of your driver’s license and registration, or your car being impounded for several months.
