Virginia Car Insurance Requirements
The state of Virginia follows a Tort system, meaning someone must be found to be at fault for causing the accident, and that person and their insurance company is responsible for all the damages.

To purchase license plates or decals, you must certify that the vehicle is covered by the minimum insurance requirements or pay the uninsured motor vehicle fee.
Virginia requires the following minimum coverage:
- Bodily injury/death of one person $25,000
- Bodily injury/death of two or more persons $50,000
- Property damage $20,000
Proof of Insurance or Financial Responsibility:
You risk suspension of your driving and registration licenses without proper coverage.
