The state of Wisconsin follows a Tort system meaning someone must be found to be at fault for causing the accident, and that person and their insurance company is responsible for all the damages.
In Wisconsin, you may either:
- Carrying auto liability insurance that meets the state’s standards
- Bodily Injury Liability: $50,000/$100,000 Limit
Property Damage Liability: $15,000 Limit
Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury: $100,000/$300,000 Limit
Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury: $100,000/$300,000 Limit
- Bodily Injury Liability: $50,000/$100,000 Limit
- Placing a cash deposit of $60,000 or filing a bond with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT).
Proof of Insurance:
Your insurance company will notify the state electronically about your coverage. Without it, you risk license and registration suspension.
